Western Oregon, Lane County

History

Founded in 2015

We have a long history in the Lane County area. From 2007 until 2015 Karen Rainsong, our Executive Director, coordinated educational programs at the Alvord Farm and Museum in West Eugene, including summer camps, workshops, field trips, and special events like baby farm animals day. After seven years, we outgrew the space and needed a new home. We then moved to the farm of Sue and Tom Hunton, owners of Camas Country Mill & Schoolhouse. It was at that time we decided to hone our mission to living history and become a non-profit. The farm was a gorgeous location with a pond, one-room schoolhouse and a barn that we occupied.

We were located there until Spring 2019, when we relocated to the historic Snapp House in Cottage Grove. This lovely space included artifacts from the history of doctoring in Cottage Grove. We moved from the Snapp House in November 2022 and became a mobile organization. In September 2025, we relocated to the Dorris Ranch Living History Village in Springfield, Oregon, with its many acres of filbert farm, river frontage, hiking trails, and several small buildings in the village such as a plankhouse, pioneer cabin, trapper’s cabin, and more. Today, we serve about 4,000 people, from children to adults, annually with our many programs and events.
