Aloha Friday

with Craig Chee & Sarah Maisel

This month's Aloha Friday features 'ukulele masters Craig Chee and Sarah Maisel. Craig grew up on O'ahu and is a UO grad and Eugene homie, remembered for his gigs Friday nights at the old Noho's Restaurant and at the annual UO lu'au. Sarah was a rising uke star in her own right before she and Craig married and became an 'ukulele power couple. Together they have been on the cover of 'Ukulele Magazine, and toured from Australia to England. Craig's fiery finger work finds a perfect complement in Sarah's smooth jazz stylings, and their voices blend in tasty harmony. With Portland bass player Milo Fultz, they will cover a range from Hawaiian to jazz to pop to originals. We will also be showing clips of people playing ukes in popular movies from the 1920s to today. The show is Friday, June 17, 6:00-7:30 pm, at Whirled Pies Downtown (Cozmic), 199 W. 8th in Eugene. The show is preceded by a lively social hour, 5:00-6:00 pm, with music by the ¡Jim G! group; Hawaiian food by Everyday Kine Grindz; pizza & drinks by Whirled Pies; a massage station; and a crafts table. The show is free, but donations are appreciated. Aloha!
