Ken Peplowski
“Since the advent of Benny Goodman, there have been too few clarinetists to fill the void that Goodman left. Ken Peplowski is most certainly one of those few. The man is magic.” -- Mel Tormé
The music director of The Shedd's annual Oregon Festival of American Music returns for another mid-winter evening of straight-ahead, standards-based jazz as only Ken Peplowski can deliver it. Ken proposes to build this year's concert with hidden gems from the classic American Songbook -- those great melodies from the 1920s through '50s that have long been mainstay jazz standards, that most all of us know by ear, yet can't quite call what they are to mind.
