Led Kaapana

Hawaiian master of the slack key guitar known for his infectious joy of performing, extraordinary baritone and falsetto voice and kolohe (rascal) charm, Ledward Ka’apana has recorded with every top island artist (including the Pahinui Brothers and Aunty Genoa Keawe) and the mainland’s Alison Krauss, Jerry Douglas, Dolly Parton, Sonny Landreth, Chet Atkins, Leo Kotke, Taj Mahal, Ry Cooder and Tal Farlow. Born and raised in the slack key hotbed of Kalapana, he proudly shares his family tradition throughout the islands and around the world. He has been richly rewarded for his loyalty to his art. "I've got more good memories", he says, "than the Big Island has black sand."
