SciFi & Fantasy Summer Camp

Join us this summer for SciFi & Fantasy Camp! For Young Writers (Ages 11 and up) Young writers, get ready to create short stories set in your own sci-fi or fantasy world with SciFi & Fantasy Camp!

Explore new science fiction and fantasy worlds of your own creation from start to finish with this short story camp. We will look at story structure, beginnings, endings, character creation, plot, and setting in the first part of the week. The second part of the week will be centered around refining and revising our stories. By the end of this camp, you should have at least one complete short story!

This camp is taught by two masters of science fiction fantasy storytelling—Sarina Dorie and Nina Kiriki Hoffman. On the last day, parents and friends are invited to a reading of our newly-created stories!

A limited number of scholarships are available to those with financial need. To apply for a scholarship fill out this application: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSciVfW7t689CGcpIpGII2Cs4xn0NJhWsvOHjHUUUySPFqDycQ/viewform

About the Instructors

Nina Kiriki Hoffman has been selling science fiction, fantasy, and horror stories for many years. Her work has appeared in R. L. Stine’s Ghosts of Fear Street, Star Trek Voyager, Bruce Coville anthologies, Cicada Magazine, and many other magazines and anthologies.

As a child, Sarina Dorie dreamed of being an astronaut/archeologist/fashion designer/illustrator/writer. Later in life, after realizing this might be an unrealistic goal, Sarina went to the Pacific NW College of Art where she earned a degree in illustration, and to Portland State University for a master’s in education to pursue the equally cut-throat career of teaching art in the public school system. After years of dedication to art and writing, most of Sarina’s dreams have come true; in addition to teaching, she is a writer/artist/ fashion designer/ and dancer.
