Fiction Fantastic Youth Writing Contest is Now Open for 2024! Submissions are open for this year’s theme, Realm of Forgotten Dreams - Oct. 1

EUGENE, Ore. – Wordcrafters is thrilled to announce that their annual youth writing contest, Fiction Fantastic, is now accepting entries! This year’s theme is “Realm of Forgotten Dreams.” The contest closes on Saturday, January 13th at 11:59 PM. Winners will be announced sometime in March.

Fiction Fantastic began in 2014. It’s open to upper elementary, middle, and high school students in Lane County, Oregon. Youth in K-2 can enter their story for selection in the K-2 Spotlight. Each year, students submit short stories based on a preselected theme. Previous year’s themes included “Into the Imaginarium,” and “Portals.” Submissions are free, and students from public, private, and homeschool are encouraged to enter!

When the contest closes, a panel of incredible judges will read over the submissions. The judging process is blind, and there are usually two rounds of judging each grade level’s works based on predetermined criteria. The five highest total scores for each grade level category move into a final judging round, which is carried out by a celebrity author! The celebrity author then selects each of the works for placement. Winners receive a cash prize, and-drum roll-publication in an official anthology!

One of the most exciting things about Fiction Fantastic is that winners’ stories will be published in an anthology! Each year’s anthology features gorgeous cover art relating to the stories’ themes, and are available for purchase through Wordcrafters. Parents and their children alike take pride in seeing their words upon the official printed pages of a book, which is then shared with countless other parents and children to enjoy.

There’s nothing like being able to say you’re a published author under 18 years of age! So if you or someone you know is a kid who loves creative writing, spread the word that Fiction Fantastic 2024 is officially open. Let your imagination run wild and free, and you just might end up in this year’s anthology, “Realm of Forgotten Dreams!”
