A miserly rich man is visited by the ghost of his former partner and forced to encounter the spirits of Christmas past, present and future in a journey to reform his heart and soul. Dickens’ celebrated ghost story of 1843 is adapted for the stage by John Schmor. In a time of severe income inequality and increasing meanness in our society, Dickens’ classic continues to remind us of the value in community, of the need for festivity despite the winter’s cold. The story of Ebeneezer Scrooge calls us to look outside the narrow paths of selfishness and greed, and follow instead the spirits of charity and hope.
