little match girl passion

the little match girl passion tells the story of a young girl selling matches on the streets in the freezing snow on New Year’s Eve. She burns through her last matches while envisioning returning to those she has loved.

The story is based on the Hans Christian Andersen fable and inspired structurally by the passion format of works such as Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion. The piece was awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for music in 2008.
