Portland Columbia Symphony presents Orchestral Showpieces Slavic Spectacular

Portland Columbia Symphony celebrates Slavic music through folk inspired classics that transport the audience through the distinctive “gypsy scales” with the wildly passionate and exotic character of Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2. Then take in the rich, harmonic coloring of Romanian Folk Dances and the lyrical Czech Suite whose rustic Polka gives way to an exhilarating, rousing Finale. The evening concludes with a “musical sneeze” in the Hungarian tradition of taking a ridiculous tale with a grain of salt — so enjoy the tale of Háry János!

LISZT: Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2

DVOŘÁK: Czech Suite

BARTÓK: Rumanian Folk Dances

KODÁLY: Suite from Háry János

Listen to this music — you get the feeling that the composer is telling you a story, and one's soul can travel there, even if the body cannot!
