Aloha Friday

with Ha'ena

Next Aloha Friday is January 19 at Whirled Pies, 199 W. 8th in Eugene. Social Hour, 5:00-6:00 pm: Pre-show music is by Dick Takei from Portland, plus Hawaiian food by Everyday Kine Grindz, pizza and libations by Whirled Pies, and Hawaiian lomilomi massage by Stacy Sellers. Main Show, 6:00-8:00 pm: Ashland's premier Hawaiian band, Ha'ena, performs music of the Hawaiian Renaissance like Keali'i Reichel and HAPA, as well as traditional and some popular music like Pink Martini. Their instrumentation is light -- just one guitar -- instead emphasizing beautiful voices and harmonies. They will be joined by guest dancers from Eugene's hula school, Nā Pua O Hawai'i Nei. There will also be a short documentary film, Last of the Hawaiian Cowboys, a poetic yet authentic portrait of a vanishing lifestyle in Hawai'i. The event is free, but donations are appreciated. Aloha!
