Aloha Friday

With Ken Emerson & Jim Kimo West

This month's Aloha Friday features Ken Emerson and Jim Kimo West, two living legends of Hawaiian slack key and steel guitar. They are Grammy winners who've played with popular music greats such as Taj Mahal, Jackson Browne, and "Weird Al" Yankovic, but at Aloha Friday the focus will be on Hawaiian. Also included is a slide show of lush paintings by American icon Georgia O'Keeffe from a 1939 trip to Hawai'i. The show is Friday, June 16, starting at 6:00 pm, at Whirled Pies Downtown, 199 W. 8th in Eugene. Before the show there's a lively social hour, 5:00-6:00 pm, with music by Aaron Ortega; Hawaiian food by Everyday Kine Grindz; pizza and libations by Whirled Pies; and a display of books on Hawai'i. The show is free, but donations are appreciated. Aloha!
