A Look at 2026 Home Design Trends

While great design is timeless, it can be fun to learn about the latest home design features, materials, colors, and finishes. Neil Kelly just released its 2026 Home Design Trends. Across the Pacific Northwest, designers are seeing homeowners prioritize comfort, craftsmanship, and connection to the natural world, while still embracing modern innovation and personal style. Here are some of the top trends predicted for the new year. Do any spark inspiration or resonate with you?

One of the strongest themes is a “Return to Earth.” As technology and artificial intelligence continue to accelerate, many homeowners are seeking balance through natural materials. Stone, wood, and organic textures are being used in refined, architectural ways. People are moving away from fabricated finishes in favor of authentic materials, particularly in wood flooring and paneling, an area where Pacific Northwest craftsmanship stands out.

Another major shift is the rise of statement wallpaper and pattern play. Wallpaper is increasingly treated as an architectural feature rather than decoration. Botanical motifs, moody landscapes, textured papers, and mural-style designs add depth and personality, while bold patterns appear on floors, tile layouts, and even ceilings, now considered the “fifth wall.” As an added bonus, wallpaper is a cost-effective design element that can really make an impact.

Color trends are also warming. Designers report a move away from cool greys and stark whites toward warm hues and blues, including browns, jewel tones, deep purples, cabernet reds, natural greens, and peacock-inspired teals. These palettes create spaces that feel richer and more inviting.

The forecast highlights a renewed appreciation for design details that are crafted with intention. Hand-crafted millwork, custom cabinetry, tilework, and detailing are increasingly valued for the sense of meaning and artistry they bring to everyday spaces. Similarly, new metallics are emerging, with champagne bronze, brushed brass, warm nickel, and thoughtfully mixed metals replacing uniform finishes.

Several trends focus on emotional and physical well-being. Mood-Boosting design emphasizes how color, texture, sound, scent, and lighting contribute to a home’s emotional quality, while designing for health and wellness reflects growing interest in sauna rooms, steam showers, home gyms, and recovery-focused spaces such as cold plunges. Soft curves and sculptural forms also continue to gain popularity, replacing sharp lines with shapes that convey ease and movement.

The 2026 trends show homes becoming more than functional and reminding us they can be restorative, expressive, and reflect our personal tastes. Now’s the time to go pick out that bold wallpaper, vintage chair, custom tilework, warm wood paneling, or soothing color that you’ve always dreamed of.
