staged reading of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee"

Summer Soup Theatre presents a STAGED READING of:

THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE

An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.

13+ recommended for content. Doors open one hour before staged reading. Free and accessible parking available. Parking lot located across 11th avenue in the University of Oregon marked lot, near Northwest Community College.

Summer SOUP is theatre by the seat of our pants.

A SOUP aesthetic means that we encourage ideas to simmer beyond the classroom and outside of the University Theatre season. We choose new plays or projects with opportunities for abbreviated, intense student engagement. We apply practical solutions creatively, with minimal resources. We invite the campus and Eugene community to join us by giving free tickets to everyone. Summer SOUP aims to satisfy artistic hunger in the summer months with a hearty blend of challenging content, ingenuity, communal effort, and theatrical adventure.
